About the EMI

The Environmental Management Inspectorate is a network of environmental enforcement officials from different government departments at national, provincial and municipal level.

Our History

In 2005, an amendment to the National Environmental Management Act, Act 107 of 1998 (NEMA) created the Environmental Management Inspectorate.

Becoming an EMI

Regulations relating to qualification criteria and training of EMIs requires that all state officials that wish to become eligible for designation as an EMI, must attend a relevant training course approved by the Director-General of the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries.
